If you're an undergraduate student, a US citizen and want to study in Japan next year, check out the 2020 MEXT Scholarship for Japanese Studies.
　I went on this as a graduate back in the day, but apparently it s mostly for undergraduates now. There are a lot of hoops to jump through but the Japanese government will cover plane fare, tuition and a stipend. That's hard to beat. If you get it, you'll be--like me--regarded as a 国費留学生 (Japan government-sponsored overseas student)--and my 後輩. :-)
